Description
On this tour we offer the best riding route available each time, carefully chosen based on weather, wind and riding conditions. The ride takes place in the scenic surroundings of the Eldhestar farm, where open meadows, lava fields and small rivers create a varied and enjoyable landscape.
Depending on conditions, we may ride across the shallow river Varma and along quiet countryside paths before finishing on smooth riding trails in the meadows south of the farm. These routes are ideal for experiencing the special, comfortable gait of the Icelandic horse, the tölt.
The tour is suitable for riders of all experience levels, from beginners to more experienced riders. During the booking process, guests are asked about their riding experience so that the right horse can be selected for everyone. Beginners and experienced riders ride together, and for safety reasons the tour focuses on relaxed riding rather than speed.

What do I need to bring
- Sturdy shoes, good sneakers or hiking boots (not too wide)
- Comfortable pants (riding pants are not necessary)
- Gloves and a thin hat under the helmet (a “buff” works well)
- Warm clothes in layers (long underwear, wool socks, scarf, sweater or fleece, wind- and waterproof jacket)
- Small waist bag if bringing a camera (backpacks cannot be taken on horseback)
- Sun lotion, sunglasses and a fly net on summer days
- Extra clothing during rainy days or winter in case you get wet

Do we ride fast or gallop?
No. The focus of this tour is relaxed riding and experiencing the Icelandic horse’s smooth tölt. For safety reasons, galloping is not part of the tour.
Is hotel pick-up included?
Yes. Pick-up and drop-off from Reykjavík are included. Pick-up times vary depending on location and will be confirmed after booking.
What happens in bad weather?
The tour operates year-round. Routes may be adjusted depending on weather and conditions, and warm overalls and rain gear are provided if needed.
