Soft River Banks – Advanced Horse Riding Tour
Feel free to contact us
Description
This tour is designed for experienced riders who want to explore the Icelandic countryside at a faster pace and fully experience the special gaits of the Icelandic horse, especially the famous tölt.
After getting to know the horses during a short warm-up in the paddock, we set off along wide meadows before riding across grasslands and following the river Gljúfurá towards the scenic delta of the Ölfusá river. The route continues along soft river banks and open plains, offering excellent conditions for steady, comfortable tölt.
We pass an old cemetery and continue through an area close to a protected bird sanctuary, known for its rich birdlife and wide wetlands. Weather permitting, there are views towards the famous volcanoes Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull in the distance before we return to the farm at Vellir.
This tour is only suitable for riders with regular riding experience who are confident controlling a horse in all gaits and varied terrain.
Please note: The minimum number of participants is 2 people. If the minimum is not reached, an alternative tour will be offered.
