Description

Search for the Northern Lights away from Reykjavík’s city glow on a winter evening cruise into Faxaflói Bay. Under dark, clear skies the aurora can appear in shifting waves of colour and movement, and watching it from the sea makes the experience feel even bigger.

The tour starts at the Elding ticket office by the Ægisgarður pier in Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, where you can buy tickets or exchange your voucher. A guide then meets you in the Whale Watching Centre by the pier for a short multimedia Northern Lights show (about 10 minutes) with images and time-lapse footage, explaining the science behind the aurora.

Once on board, you’ll head out into darker skies with several outdoor viewing platforms and open decks for aurora spotting. There’s also a heated indoor lounge/saloon if you want to warm up between sightings, plus toilets and a café where you can buy light refreshments. Wrap up in the warm overalls provided on board and enjoy the hunt with your guide on hand for questions.
